The focus of the class is to provide a forum to explore topics that are not addressed in the figure class, such as the forms of drapery and non-human organic objects as well as the light effects of different materials and textures. As in the figure class we will examine long-held artistic principles of light and form and how to best apply these principles while working from life.

The class is flexible enough to accommodate students of any level. Students may work at their own pace, and study either drawing or painting. Those who are interested in studying light and color effects will be able to do one-day color exercises from still life objects before moving on to a longer project. Those who would like to will have the opportunity to take a painting to completion following the instructor's approach (drawing, poster, color wash, and form painting).

Still life stations will be placed along the perimeter of the figure classroom. This station will be independent from the others. This arrangement will provide each person with a chance to do his or her own project without interfering with another project. Some still life arrangements will be provided but each student is welcome to bring in any objects and drapery. If you have any questions about which objects to bring, don't hesitate to ask.

Short demonstration lectures will be given and examples of Dennis Cheaney's method of still life painting will be shown. Critiques will be offered at each student's easel.

Class dates and times: Wednesdays, April 9 - June 11 from 6:30p - 9:30p. Fridays, April 11 - June 13 from 6:30p - 9:30p.

Make-up policy: There will be a make-up class on the eleventh week for any missed classes held for the Wednesday class on June 18 and for the Friday class on June 20. If you have perfect attendance, you are welcome to come, too.

Class size is limited to 10 people.

Cost: $275.

Registration Deadline: Friday, April 11, 2008. Please note that unlike the figure classes, full payment is required before the start of class. Full refund if class is cancelled.
